Today was Sophia’s birthday, and I’ve long been stuck when it comes to finding the perfect gift for my girlfriend. She doesn’t really want anything, nor is there much that we need that either of us can afford.
I trudged to the mall, in hopes that walking the aisles would give me an idea.
I found a pink candy heart no bigger than my thumbnail inscribed with the letters LOVE.
As we sat down for lunch, I cleared my throat, and Sophia looked up. Silently, I held the heart out between my thumb and forefinger so that she could read the letters chiseled into sugar.
Sophia has a beautiful smile, and when I saw her lips curve and widen, I knew that I’d found the perfect gift.
I placed the heart on the tip of my tongue and kissed her deeply.
